I have known James since nineteen hundred and eight-three. Growing up in Calvary Baptist Church, I saw James and his brothers everywhere: Calvary Youth Ministry, church lock-Ins, homecoming picnics, two choirs, the church step team, watching football at their home in East Point, Morehouse College, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, and the pulpit. Weddings, funerals, and ordinations mark various moments our lives that have been shared. We and have seen pastors old and young come through our home church in Morristown, New Jersey. And I bet they all remember James's nickname too. Thirty years and counting!
